What You Need to Know

The Netherlands houses ASML — the world's only manufacturer of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines, without which no semiconductor with feature sizes below 10nm can be produced. A single ASML machine costs EUR 350 million and every major chipmaker (TSMC, Samsung, Intel) depends on them. TU Delft's Applied Physics department is ASML's primary academic recruitment pipeline — and QuTech (TU Delft's quantum research institute) is one of Europe's most advanced quantum computing research centres. TU/e's Photonics and Semiconductor Nanophysics group has strong links to Philips Research and NXP. TNO (the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research) offers 2,500 research positions and is a major employer of TU Delft and TU/e physics graduates. The Zoekjaar visa grants 12 months post-graduation.
