CGPA to percentage calculator

Multiply CGPA by 9.5 for an approximate percentage: that is the CBSE rule, and many institutions accept it when a university has no rule of its own. Several universities publish their own formula, though, and the difference can be 5 points or more. Pick yours below.

Quick answer. 8 CGPA = 76%, 7.5 CGPA = 71.25% and 7 CGPA = 66.5% under the CBSE × 9.5 rule. Your university's own formula, or the conversion certificate it issues, always takes priority.

When you need a conversion certificate

If your transcript shows only CGPA and a form, bank or evaluator asks for a percentage, request a conversion certificate (sometimes called a percentage equivalence letter) from your university's exam section. It removes any doubt about which formula applies, and most evaluators and education-loan lenders accept it directly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert CGPA to percentage?

Use your university's published formula if it has one. If it does not, multiply your CGPA by 9.5, the CBSE rule that many institutions and employers accept: 8.0 × 9.5 = 76%.

Why multiply CGPA by 9.5?

CBSE derived 9.5 from the average marks of the top-scoring students in each subject over several years, so that a 10 CGPA corresponds to roughly 95%. It is an approximation, not a law.

What is 8 CGPA in percentage?

76% with the CBSE formula (8 × 9.5). Under other rules it is 80% (Anna University, VTU 2021 scheme), 72.5% (AKTU), 75% (GTU, JNTUH) or 67.8% (Mumbai University engineering).

What is 7 CGPA in percentage?

66.5% with the CBSE formula (7 × 9.5). AKTU gives 62.5%, GTU and JNTUH give 65%, and Anna University gives 70%.

Do foreign universities need my percentage?

Many ask for your grades as on the transcript, with the scale. Some application forms ask for a percentage, and Indian banks and employers often do too. If your transcript shows only CGPA, ask your university for a conversion certificate or the formula letter.

Which formula does SPPU use?

Savitribai Phule Pune University converts using a grade slab table rather than a single formula. Use the percentage equivalence printed on your grade card or ask the exam section for a conversion certificate.
