Netherlands Student Visa — MVV & Residence Permit

Indian students studying in the Netherlands for more than 90 days need an MVV (Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf — Provisional Residence Permit) and a subsequent residence permit. Unlike most countries, Dutch universities with IND sponsorship rights can handle your visa process directly, making it faster and simpler.

How the Process Works for Indian Students

Sponsored by Your University

Most Dutch universities (TU Delft, University of Amsterdam, Wageningen, etc.) are IND-recognized sponsors. They apply for your MVV on your behalf — you just submit documents to the university's international office.

Single Entry MVV

Your university applies for your MVV and residence permit together. You collect the MVV sticker from the Dutch embassy in New Delhi or Mumbai before departure. It covers your first 3 months in the Netherlands.

Residence Permit (VVR) in Netherlands

After arrival, your university collects your biometrics and applies for your official residence permit card (verblijfsvergunning). This card is valid for the duration of your studies.

Zoekjaar Visa (Job Seeker)

After graduation, apply for the 12-month Zoekjaar (Orientation Year) visa to search for work in the Netherlands. You can work during this period and convert to a regular work permit.
